Do you like getting up early to get Black Friday deals? My husband does, and every year he is up and at the stores before the sun comes up on Black Friday. Many times I'll join him.
Last year we discovered that many Black Friday deals were available online—meaning no early-morning trek to the stores; we could shop from the comfort of our home. And this year we've just found out that, in addition to Black Friday, there really are ideal days to head out to do your holiday shopping.
According to ShopperTrak, a provider of retail and mall foot-traffic counting services, certain days between Thanksgiving and Christmas not only offer great deals in the stores but also you'll be fighting fewer crowds—thus leading to an overall more pleasant shopping experience.
ShopperTrak says that the weekdays following Black Friday and Black Saturday are the season's best days to hit stores. Why? Many people are already tired from shopping till they drop the weekend before and avoid the stores that next week. Also, there is Cyber Monday (November 28th), when many people go back to work and head online to snag holiday deals.
What does that mean for you? Those weekdays following Black Friday and Black Saturday will have fewer crowds than any other time during the holiday season, and there will still be good deals for shoppers who wait it out. In fact, many Black Friday sales will still be in effect after the weekend, and retailers, eager to unload remaining merchandise, may further reduce prices to entice the fewer numbers of shoppers to take it home. Expect those enticements to continue into early December.
However, the closer we get to Chanukah (December 20th) and Christmas (December 25th), the more crowds you'll encounter at the stores.
Based on foot-traffic patterns of holiday shopping seasons gone by, ShopperTrak predicts that these are the top 10 best days to do your holiday shopping in 2011:
Clearly, if you're looking to avoid crowds and still find great bargains this holiday season, you would be wise to get your holiday shopping done sooner rather than later in 2011.
