Although I worry what will happen to the growth of my book collection, I love my Kindle. But the Kindle is not something anyone wants to see on my coffee table. My friend Denise Raab Jacobs, who translates coffee table books from French to English, told me, “Coffee table books are the last books that will exist.” Denise says she went to a book fair recently and the big photo books were the mainstay of the show.

Denise points out that books on your coffee table are like the photos you display in frames.  “When I go to someone’s house and there are books on the table, I’m always curious. They reflect your interests and what you hope to do.”

She agrees with the idea of my article “Show Your Mojo With Coffee Table Books” that these books make a personal statement. That said, they also make great gifts. Here are ten books published by Assouline, among them a few Denise has translated.
