The social media networks are all a buzz about Matthew Broderick reprising his role as Ferris Bueller in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"—not in a new movie but in a Super Bowl 2012 ad for Honda, the carmaker. Already people are talking about how the commercial is an homage to that classic 1980s film—from Matthew Broderick calling in sick to his agent (versus his high school) to his talking directly into the camera.

The Florida Primary 2012 is today, Tuesday, January 31st. After winning in South Carolina, it is anyone's guess if Newt Gingrich will come out ahead of Mitt Romney—especially given the recent GOP debates and Mitt Romney's sudden rise in the polls. Nonetheless, there are plenty of voters to woo in the Florida primary in 2012. It has 18 million residents, and is the 4th most populous state in U.S. behind California, Texas, and New York. No wonder there is so much at stake in this election there.

Conversation starters come in handy in nearly every social situation. When I meet someone new, I'm always curious to know how they spend their time, so that is usually the first thing I ask.

I also like to be up on the news before a dinner party or other social engagement. The Sunday paper offers a wide variety of things to talk about. For example, I'm interested in relationships, so I read the Modern Love column in the Sunday Styles section of the New York Times. It always gives me a conversation topic.

Philadelphia Flower Show 2012

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society announced this week the theme of the 2012 Philadelphia Flower Show. In a nod to the tropics, this year's theme is "Hawaii: Islands of the Aloha." The media event in Philadelphia this past week had all of the flower show dignitaries wearing Hawaiian leis.

In his recent State of the Union address, President Obama addressed our country's current real estate situation, including the fact that many American homeowners currently have underwater mortgages.
