Albert Einstein disciplined himself to avoid remembering anything he could look up. These days, it’s easy to access information about practically anything, but certain things you can’t look up, like Did I take my vitamins this morning or did I just think about it? I struggle with memory, so I use these techniques to make remembering easier.
In my review copy of Joshua Foer's memoir Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything, I learned Foer has an average memory. Yet, using nmemonic techniques, he became the U.S. Memory Champion.
I also use memory by association. When I wanted to remember to buy the book Seinlanguage, I pictured Seinfeld moonwalking with Einstein.
The following pages include more on memory by association as well as other ways to stop forgetting.
