Picnic: Homemade Popcorn Recipe

For this picnic favorite, heat a puddle of olive oil in a dutch oven and drop in a few kernels of popcorn. When they begin to sizzle, fill the bottom with a layer of kernels and cover, shaking the pot and lifting it off and on the heat, so the bottom doesn't burn. Add salt to taste.

We take popcorn to our picnic at the Screen on the Green outdoor film series, every Monday night for four weeks in Washington, D.C. Two weeks remain, in case find yourself in the nation's capital.

I took this photo at my daughter's home after I added too many kernels, not realizing her pot is half the height of my popcorn pot.
