Whether you say tomato or tomahto, summer is the season to enjoy a variety of tomato recipes. Speaking of variety, did you know there are some 400 varieties of tomatoes? Whether you grow your own tomatoes or buy heirloom or grape tomatoes, see how to freeze, store, peel and harvest tomatoes and try some of these recipes now, while the fruit (or is it a veg?) is summer sweet. See the last slide for links to additional great tomato recipes.
Go heavy or light on the tomatoes and add some fun ingredients, such as bloody mary mix, to your basic gazpacho recipe. I like vinegar in my gazpacho.
Search the Internet for a panoply of gazpacho recipes: green or red, chunky or smooth, always chilled. Garnish your gazpacho with sour cream dollop, croutons, mint sprig, flower, shrimp, crab meat, asaparagus, cucmber slice or all of the above.
Serve in a bowl, a mug or a glass, spoon optional.
