Aphids are actually plant lice. Gross. These annoying little buggers show up just as plants are getting new shoots. You often find them on the undersides of leaves. The problem with these plant lice is that they suck the sap out of the plant, producing curled leaves, and leaving spots. The best way to get rid of aphids? Spray your plant with an insecticidal soap. FYI, even a mix of dishwashing liquid and water in a spray bottle counts as an insecticide, because, in the end, it kills the insect.
