What These Fallen 9-11 Heroes Would Have Wanted You to Know

On the red door of New York City’s Squad Company 18, hang the pictures of 7 smiling youthful faces and the words “You Will Not Be Forgotten.” These 7 firefighters, among New York’s finest, lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Today, Steve Ritea and the FDNY want us to know how to prevent fires and practice fire safety. As a worrywart, I plan to commit these to memory.

  • Careless smoking
  • Food left unattended on a stove
  • Overloaded electrical sockets
  • Poor quality extension cords
  • Appliances like space heaters left too close to drapes, bedding or furniture.
